Round 4 of the 2025 FIA World Rally Championship took place from 24 to 27 April on the asphalt roads of Gran Canaria, Spain.
Rally Islas Canarias joined the WRC calendar for the first time, bringing the championship’s opening full-tarmac event of the season to a new host location.
A major event in European rallying since 1977, Rally Islas Canarias has previously featured in the FIA European Rally Championship and the Intercontinental Rally Challenge.
The rally was held across Gran Canaria’s volcanic terrain, mountain roads and coastal areas, with the island’s capital, Las Palmas, hosting the popular Super Special Stage.
Drivers faced 18 special stages covering 301.3 kilometres of competitive driving. Sharp elevation changes, tight corners and technical asphalt roads placed a strong focus on precise handling, tyre management and consistent grip.
High road temperatures also increased tyre wear, making compound selection and tyre management important parts of each team’s rally strategy.
As the exclusive tyre supplier to the FIA World Rally Championship, Hankook supplied the Ventus Z215 and Ventus Z210 tarmac rally tyres for the event.
The Ventus Z215 was developed to deliver cornering stability and precise handling on dry asphalt. The Ventus Z210 was designed for wet conditions, providing reliable grip and effective water dispersion.
Together, the two tyres delivered the performance and flexibility required across Gran Canaria’s changing road conditions.
Rally Islas Canarias followed Safari Rally Kenya, which attracted more than 250,000 spectators in March 2025, representing a 33 percent increase from the previous year.
